My first student events

Although the semester hasn´t been too long yet, and Coronavirus is still crossing our plans, we have already been able to attend some student events, thanks to our hard-working tutors and student union.
On the first Friday of this semester, we had a little picnic with all the first semester students. We all brought snacks and drinks and our tutors organized some games for us. We played “chubby bunny”, where you have to put as many marshmallows in your mouth as you can, who can throw a rainboot the furthest (with extra style points) and we had to bring specific items to the tutors, like a Corona beer, hand sanitizer, a condom (or even the head tutors!) and the fastest team would get the point. Afterwards we all went to Kliffa, our favourite bar/club in Porvoo (out of the two that we have :D).

Our next event was the “Beer Hunt”. This time everyone was invited, but most of the people attending were first semester or exchange students anyways. We all went to a little forest area next to our campus, where our student union board already hid some beers and patches for us. On their command, we all ran into the forest and tried to find the treasures that they hid. I actually got super lucky and found a beer and a patch. Afterwards we just chilled there. We had some snacks, some games and some music which made the whole thing a nice preparty before going to Kliffa again.

The next event we had was during school time. It was organized by the second semester students of the Tourism programme in Finnish, which planned events for us around Porvoo. The groups were divided into Arts, Sports and Wellness. I joined the Arts group as my roommate was one of the organizers. They took us around Porvoo’s city centre and told us something about the street art along the way. Afterwards we got some self-made burgers and got the chance to design our own bags. The Sports Team organized Olympics, where the attendants had to play little “sports games” and the Wellness Team gave there group a summer cottage experience, by having a barbecue and singing songs together. All in all, it was a lovely day for all the groups.

The last event we just recently had was called “Beer Olympics”, although there was no beer involved :D
In groups of maximum ten people we walked around Porvoo centre from one checkpoint to another, where we had to complete different challenges, like getting through some ropes without touching them, inventing our own superhero or charade. On all of these checkpoints we got points, partly for how we did the task and partly for our team spirit. Our group decided to all wear something pink and called ourselves “The Mean Girls”, because “ON WEDNESDAYS WE WEAR PINK!” and earned a lot of points for that. Unfortunately, we still didn´t win in the end.
The event we are now waiting for is “The Amazing Race”. In teams of four we will go around Porvoo again and have to master challenges in dancing, tasting, puzzle solving and general knowledge, while competing against other teams and the time.
“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”
