Italians are well known for their food culture and they’re proud of it – as they should. But when we, the Italians, go around the world, become the most annoying food judges 😊.
So, here for you today, let’s go with Italian boy rating his Finnish food and drink experiences!

Suukkoja 10/10
These sweets are absolutely ones of my favorite, ever. The combo of the sweet foam (which comes with different flavors), the chocolate coffer and the wafer-like biscuit at the base, is just gorgeous. They usually come in packs of 25, and a pack usually has a very short life with me.

Lonkero 10/10
Lonkero for me was one of the most pleasant surprises in Finland! This long drink is just perfect to enjoy in the summer on a terrace with friends, but also a good companion in the sauna, and of course a MUST HAVE at every party!

Pineapple pizza at the school cafeteria 0-----/10
I must say, that was an Italian’s worst nightmare. A pizza with corn, pineapple and kebab, all covered by a layer of undefined cheese. I had to try it at least once in my life, not a thing for me though.

Lasagna at the school cafeteria 7/10
On the other hand, I must say that the lasagna I tried a couple days ago was surprisingly good. Not an authentic one, of course, but still a good one. Besciamella (the white sauce) was missing, but that was still okay. When I said “wow, it’s actually good”, my friends were shocked and decided to eternalize this moment with a picture 😊

Elk sausage 8/10 and Runeberg Cake 9/10
While visiting Porvoo with my family two years ago, we stopped at a local restaurant and had a local launch. We took elk sausages, extremely good. And of course, being in Porvoo, we had to have some Runeberg Cakes! These small desserts with rum, raspberry jam and sugar are a real good treat! I have to give a 9 because during my first week in Finland I ate four in a row and had an indigestion 😐

Finnish coffee 6/10 (but I’m working on it)
Coming from an espresso background, these big cups of coffee (or dirty water, as I used to call them) were not that appealing to me. However, I must say that I’m getting used to it, and it’s not that bad after all. Maybe I’m just the most annoying of the picky eaters. A special mention to Finnish coffee shops: they are very nice places, with such good vibes; I love to go there to hang out with friends, to eat a piece of cake, but also to study. 10/10 for the coffee shops’ vibes.
